Ever since humans started making music other humans have complained about how awful and corrupting it is. We aren’t going back quite to the dawn of music, we are looking at some songs and artists that have caused a stir. So, put on some headphones, tear open the brown paper bag, and enjoy the controversy.

Side A27:52

01Rihanna"S&M"4:03

A riotous celebration of non-conformity, of pleasure and pain, of sex in all its many forms. It also has one of our favourite lyrics: “Cause I may be bad but I'm perfectly good at it”.
02Nine Inch Nails"Closer"6:13

The song that your friends told you about, the one about f*cking like an animal. The unexpected and probably unintended centrepiece of The Downward Spiral, which a generation of teenagers screamed behind closed bedroom doors.
03Rammstein"Pussy"3:59

Launched on an adult video streaming site, this is as subtle as a nuclear bomb but captures the genius of Rammstein.
04The Prodigy"Smack My Bitch Up"5:43

There was a time when this was front page news. The follow up to Firestarter and Breathe helped propel The Prodigy into superstardom and the moral outrage only ensured more people sought it out.
05Christina Aguilera"Dirrty (feat. Redman)"4:58

Banned in Thailand. Maybe. Everything about this song and accompanying video screams 2000s.
06Elvis Presley"Burning Love"2:56

Could we do this without featuring America's original sensation / panic? No we could not. In his prime, the King could whip up a frenzy like no one else.

Side B26:18

07The Pussycat Dolls"Don't Cha (feat. Busta Rhymes)"4:32

We learned that this was released first by Tori Alamaze and later picked up by the Pussycat Dolls. Like Dirrty, this is the essence of 2000s culture.
08Ice Cube"You Can Do It (feat. Mack 10 & Ms. Toi)"4:19

We know we feature Ice Cube a lot here at Rabbit Høle but come on, if we're talking about controversy could we leave him out. Put your back into it.
09Cyndi Lauper"She Bop"3:52

One of the original Filthy Fifteen, She Bop is the reason we're adding the parental advisory to our tape for a second week in a row.
10Madonna"Like a Prayer"5:40

Where do we start with this one? Controversial for almost every reason and we absolutely love it.
11Labelle"Lady Marmalade"3:57

Just when we started publishing articles in French. Well, you should know what this one is about by now.
12Rihanna"Disturbia"3:58

We started with Rihanna and we end with Rihanna, Disturbia is dark, twisted, and brooding.
